The company has 19 JCB machines and expects the percentage of JCB machines in its fleet to nearly double in five years.

A STRONG track record of performance with JCB equipment and a solid relationship with JCB Construction Equipment Australia has meant little need for change and good confidence for South Australian plumbing and civil services company, B J Jarrad Pty Ltd.

In fact, the company expects the percentage of JCB machines in its fleet to nearly double in five years from about 50pc today to around 70pc.

B J Jarrad, founded by Barry Jarrad in 1983 and based in Adelaide, employs close to 200 staff as well as additional labour in peak periods.

The family-owned business undertakes significant operations for SA Water and its work also extends to the State’s mining industry.

Brett Jarrad said the company had grown rapidly in recent years and was continuing to meet market demand.

It specialises in:
• Water delivery pipelines and mains.
• Water, sewer and stormwater pump station construction.
• Sewer mains.
• Stormwater drainage systems.
• Treated effluent delivery pipelines and mains.
• Rock trenching.
• High pressure water delivery systems.
• Fire fighting systems.
• Mining infrastructure.
• Innovative pipeline rehabilitation.

B J Jarrad has 19 JCB machines in total, with recent additions including the UK-built 22-tonne JS220, 24t JS240 and 30t JS290 excavators. Other JCB equipment includes a number of backhoes and wheeled loaders.

“Our work and support for JCB products started with the backhoes,’’ Brett said.

“We have always been very comfortable purchasing JCB products and with the relationship we have with JCB Construction Equipment Australia.

“They are good machines that are very reliable and they have always been well received.’’

All of B J Jarrad’s JCB machines are serviced by their own in-house mechanics and they are turned-over regularly, depending on their lifecycle.

“We have had a couple of minor problems over the years, but these are always fixed quickly by Peter Jeffery and the team at JCB Construction Equipment Australia in Adelaide.’’

Brett said they did compare the recently purchased JCB excavators with alternatives, but the superior product and technology as well as the relationship with JCB Construction Equipment Australia meant JCB came out on top.

The excavators are deployed for general earthworks and deep drainage works.

The UK-built JCB JS220, JS240 and JS290, long carriage excavators were designed for extra stability

The Japanese-sourced hydraulic components of the JCB JS excavator range have been engineered to provide more dipper force, drawbar pull and bucket dig force to enhance the performance of these machines.

The range employs an Advanced Management System (AMS) on-board computer to control all of the machine’s major functions – providing extra power or precision when needed, depending on the job.

The AMS has four operating modes of auto, economy, precision or lifting and is designed to provide better fuel efficiency and minimise operating costs.

It also alerts drivers if there is a problem with the machine and records all key operating data – valuable if you are tracking the machine’s use, diagnosing any problems or re-selling.

All JCB auto tracked excavators feature cushion control to the boom and dipper as well and this is continuously employed, unless deactivated by the driver. It works to cushion the shock loadings to the machine and boosts the comfort for the driver.

Brett said the JCB excavators were very comfortable and easy to operate.
