AN inaugural ‘Family Day’ staged by JCB Construction Equipment Australia’s Sydney branch for customers recently was a strong success and has laid the foundation for future events.

The Family Day, held at the branch’s Smithfield site, featured business information sessions focusing on sales and marketing, while there was also a JCB Loadall operators competition and plenty of fun for kids too.

The sales and marketing sessions were presented by one of Australia’s most popular customer service and marketing speakers, Martin Grunstein, who has worked with a number of small businesses as well as sporting teams in the country.

Greg Crawford from De Lage Landen (DLL) also attended the event to discuss retail finance and the details of the investment allowance outlined as part of the Federal Government’s ‘Stimulus Package’.

Kids were entertained with Xbox, PlayStation and Wii Sports games, a bouncy castle, colour-in competition, movies and ‘Doug the Dump Truck’ rides.

A range of civil industry operators attended the event with their families.

JCB Construction Equipment Australia New South Wales State Manager Phill Withell said the focus of the Family Day, particularly with the information sessions, was to bring some value to customers’ businesses in a non-product way.

“The event was about offering value to customers’ businesses in a forum where they could bring the family along,’’ Phill said.

“JCB is family-owned and JCB Construction Equipment Australia is also family owned – and we wanted to take this position and approach all the way through to our customers.’’

He said feedback following the event had been encouraging.

“Customers have remarked that it is a good concept and that it was a very good day, with plenty of activities for the kids.’’

The JCB Loadalls competition at the event was won by William Cauchi of WC Excavations, while Luciano Marrone of L & M Marrone Plant Hire, was runner-up.

The Golden Bucket Allied Earthmovers Association helped with the running of the competition.

The Association, which assists with a range of interests for owner operators, is in its 23rd year and has 180 owner operator and associate members.

It is run by a volunteer committee and has had a designated office and employee for seven years.

Ann Callaghan from Allied Earthmovers said the JCB Construction Equipment Australia Family Day was a great idea for existing and potential customers, as well as for staff.

“It was a real opportunity for the team there to show-off what they do and you could see the pride they have in the business,’’ Ann said.

She said for the Association, the event also provided the opportunity to meet more operators.

“It reinforced the benefits of the recent Civenex event at Eastern Creek in being able to catch up with a few people again.’’
